Volunteer work is considered one of the most important renewable development resources, because of its pivotal role in contributing to confronting social, economic, and environmental challenges at all levels. With the escalation of global crises and the increasing severity of risks, volunteers remain at the forefront, providing support and assistance to the most needy groups, and bearing grave responsibilities in times of emergency and exceptional circumstances.
This year's celebration coincides with the two-year anniversary of the Misr El Kheir Foundation launching the Volunteer Work Charter for Sustainable Development, which came as a result of the round table organized by the Foundation under the title “The Egyptian Volunteer Movement: Reality and Opportunities for Growth,” with the participation of thirty experts and representatives of local and international bodies that support volunteer work. The charter includes an integrated frame of reference for the values and principles governing volunteer work, including its developmental impact on society and the volunteer, all the way to defining the rights and obligations of volunteers in a way that enhances the sustainability of this vital sector.
